When You Need It
When ductwork needs replacing
Sometimes a tune-up isn't enough. Here's when the duct system itself is the problem.
New construction
Full duct design from scratch — sized to the load calc, routed efficiently, sealed at every seam. We coordinate with framers and other trades.
Additions & finished basements
New square footage means new duct runs. We extend the existing system safely or add a dedicated zone if the load calls for it.
Crushed or rotted ducts
Old flex collapses, rusts, or gets crushed in attics. If the duct is structurally gone, repair won't bring it back — replacement is the answer.
Hot/cold rooms
If a room is always 5°+ off from the rest of the house, the duct is undersized or poorly routed. Rebalancing or new runs solve it.
New high-efficiency system
A modern variable-speed AC needs the right duct sizing to deliver its rated SEER2. Undersized ducts choke the system and waste the upgrade.
Pre-1985 home
Older homes often have asbestos-wrapped ducts or undersized runs. We assess condition and replace what needs replacing safely.
Our Process
What happens next
Load calc & design
Manual J for the load, Manual D for the duct design. Sized to the actual house, not a rule of thumb.
Written quote
Materials (sheet metal vs flex), runs, sealing, insulation R-value, labor — itemized. You see the math.
Install
Whole-home retrofits run 2–4 days. Single-zone additions 1–2 days. We protect interior surfaces and clean as we go.
Verify & balance
Static pressure test, room-by-room airflow check, register balancing. The system runs the way it was designed.
Ductwork Install Questions
Duct installation FAQ
Sheet metal or flex duct — which is better?
Sheet metal trunk lines, insulated flex for branch runs. Sheet metal lasts decades and resists damage; flex is cheaper and easier to route around obstructions. The right answer is usually a mix.
How much does new ductwork cost?
Depends on house size, accessibility, and scope (single addition vs. whole-home redesign). After the load calc and walk-through, we give you a flat written quote — no day-of surprises.
How long does ductwork take to install?
Whole-home retrofit: 2–4 days. Single addition or zone: 1–2 days. New construction is scheduled to fit the build timeline.
Will it improve efficiency?
A lot. Most old systems lose 20–30% of conditioned air through leaky or undersized ducts. Proper design and sealing can drop your bills and finally make every room comfortable.
What if I just need a small fix?
Then you probably don't need full installation — see our duct repair page. We'll tell you honestly whether repair or replacement fits.
